Bessie Jane McCall Broome

Canton

Mrs. Bessie Jane McCall Broome, 82, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Born on December 22, 1943, in Washington, Georgia, Jane was the daughter of the late Jack McCall and Sarah House McCall.

Jane was always a hard worker at home and on the job. She liked to stay busy. She was employed for most of her life. In her later years she worked in the lunchroom for the Gwinnett County School System. She truly enjoyed serving the children and being part of the school community. She also worked and retired from Kroger where her friendly smile and outgoing personality made everyone feel welcome.

Jane had a love for cooking and her delicious sweet potato casserole, pecan pies and other desserts were always favorites at family gatherings. She also had a green thumb and took great pride in her beautiful flowers. Receiving fresh flowers frequently from her daughter, Kristy and her dear friend, Dee always brightened her day and she truly looked forward to receiving them especially in her later days. Jane had a special love for wildlife and enjoyed feeding the birds, especially hummingbirds, deer, and turkeys that visited her yard. Watching and caring for them brought her much happiness. She was also “Grandma” to her daughters’ numerous pets and loved to spoil them with treats and affection.

Jane never met a stranger and loved visiting and talking with everyone she encountered. She had a kind and generous heart and was always more concerned about the needs of others than her own. Even on her worst days she would ask if you were okay that day. At family gatherings, Jane made sure everyone had plenty to eat and was well taken care of before she ever thought of serving herself. Caring for others came naturally to her, and she found true happiness in making those around her feel loved and comfortable. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother who found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved. Her warm smile, selfless nature, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, William Isaac "Bill" Broome; two daughters, Kristy Linebarger and her husband, James, of Canton, Georgia, and Donna Buhler and her husband, Al, of Dacula, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Courtney Mathewson and Derek Linebarger; Allison Haney and Michael Buhler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph McCall; and two sisters, Anne Rogers and Faye Herring.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Resthaven Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Duvall officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Buhler, Derek Linebarger, Reese Mathewson, Al Buhler, James Linebarger, Andrew Haney, and Wendy Rogers (Honorary)
