Dr. Charles Eugene Pollock, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected physician, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the age of 92.
He was born on June 21, 1933, in Camilla, Georgia. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1950 and continued his education at Norman Park Junior College and Mercer University. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. In 1958 Gene began his general surgery residency at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia which was interrupted by serving two years as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, from 1960 to 1962. He returned to Memorial Hospital in Savannah where he completed his residency in 1964. He then joined his brother in a medical practice in Washington, Georgia,
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joanne Beattie Pollock, and their three children: Pam P. Reese (Mike) of Lincolnton, GA; Chuck Pollock (Clare) of Macon, GA; and Susan P. Horn (Jimbo) of Watkinsville, GA. He was the proud grandfather of Will Reese (Brittany), John Reese (Paige), Joe Reese (Kailla), Burney Marshall (Will), Trip Horn, Jack Horn (Ellen), and Mary Jo Horn, and his six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Moffett, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Pollock and Ruby Ostean Pollock, and his brother, Dr. John E. Pollock.
A funeral service celebrating Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jim Newsome and Rev. Steve Jacobs. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. A private burial will follow the service.
In memory of Gene, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Hopkins Funeral Home.
