A homegoing celebration for Evan Jerome Stover, Jr, 71 of Washington will be held Saturday, November 17 at Washington First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.The Service will be conducted by Rev. Kevin Madden. Pallbearers are Larry Gillespie, Jim Griggs, Jimmy Martin, Paul Mims, Layne Paulk, and Jim Pixley. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Wheelis and members of the Friendship Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Friday, November 16from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home. Mr. Stover died on Wednesday, November 14 at Augusta University Health in Augusta, Georgia. Born in Washington, Georgia on March 5, 1947, Mr. Stover was the husband of Becky Blackmon Stover . He was the son of the late Evan Jerome and Martha Stover of Washington. Jerry, as he was known, graduated from Washington Wilkes High School in 1965 and was an Eagle Scout. He attended ABAC and earned an associate degree in Civil Engineering at Atlanta Tech.He enjoyed a 37 year career with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a lifetime member of Washington First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, a member of theFriendshipSunday School Class and the Missions Team.Jerry was also a Gideon.He was past president of the Washington Lions Club, member of the Rotary Club and served as a Wilkes County Commissioner from 2003-2010.He also coached his daughters’ softball teams as well as many Washington-Wilkes Little League teams. Mr. Stover was a proud member of the State Championship Tiger football team of 1963 andwas an avid supporter of WWCHS football, where he served on the film crew for 30 years. Besides being survived by his wife Becky, he is also survived by daughters, Anna (Nick Hafner) of Alexandria, Virginia and Sarah Jane (Matt Gaither) of Canton, Georgia, step-son, Layne Paulk of Lexington, Georgia and grandchildren, Ella Jane Gaither and Reid Woods Gaither.He is also survived by brothers, Larry Stover (Marie) of Griffin, Georgia and David Stover (Diane) ofMt. Airy, Georgia and several nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O.
