James A. Reynolds

James Alonza Reynolds, (known to family and friends as Jimmy) a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 100.

A longtime resident of Washington, Georgia, James was born in Siloam, Georgia, on Tuesday, November 3, 1925, to the late Deleon Hamilton Reynolds and Ann McMekin Reynolds.

James was a man of honor, faith, and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on a destroyer escort in the Pacific theater during World War II.

Following his military service and graduating from the University of Georgia, he made his home in Washington, Georgia, where he built a life centered on family, community, and enduring relationships. He was a longtime and devoted member of Washington Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary Bounds Reynolds, with whom he shared many wonderful years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Helen Hodgson, Deleon Reynolds, Liz Reynolds, Carolyn Lamkin, and Josephine Bryson.

James is survived by his three devoted children: Dr. James M. Reynolds and wife Cindy of Knoxville, TN; Ann R. Gordon and husband Johnny of Raleigh, NC; and Hamilton Reynolds and wife Julia of Atlanta, GA. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth Pauline Reynolds, James Austin Reynolds, Matthew Bounds Gordon, Daniel Jonathan Gordon (Brooke), Katherine Gordon Jackson (Mark), Andrew Joshua Gordon (Samantha), Amanda Gordon Ruth (Jesse), Margaret Coleman Reynolds (Tom), Hamilton Bounds Reynolds (Mallorie) and Mary Virginia Reynolds. He was a proud great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren, each a testament to his enduring spirit and kindness.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Washington Presbyterian Church. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Glen Kohlhagen, will begin at 2:00 PM. James will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery, in a ceremony reflecting the grace and dignity with which he lived his life.

Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Reynolds, Tom Roberts, Daniel Gordon, Hamilton Reynolds, Matthew Gordon, and Andrew Gordon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mary Willis Library, 204 East Liberty Street, Washington, GA 30673.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hopkins Funeral Home, who is honored to serve the family of Mr. Reynolds.
