July 16, 1937 — February 3, 2026

Elberton

Jane Rita Clark Wheeler, 88, of Elberton passed away February 3, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Jane was born July 16, 1937, in Springfield, KY. She grew up in the historical Pleasant Grove Community of Washington County Kentucky. From an early age she was gifted in sewing, cooking, canning, and designing her own clothes. She taught children’s Sunday School classes, Bible School, and was a leader for Bible Study and crafts at summer church camps. Jane always knew that she wanted to major in home economics and after finishing high school she went to Transylvania college and then transferred to the University of Kentucky where she earned her BS degree in Home Economics. While at the University of Kentucky she was an assistant to several of her Home Economics professors. After graduating from the University of Kentucky Jane worked as a commercial demonstrator for Kentucky Utilities. Her job included giving commercial demonstrations about electric appliances in a five-county area. In 1963 Jane married Harold Grey Wheeler. His job with AT&T took them to Baxley, GA, Bowman, GA, and finally to Elberton. When her children were students at Samuel Elbert Christian Academy, she was active in PTA, teaching home economics and managing the lunchroom. With unwavering faith, she lived a life selflessly devoted to her faith and her family and was a faithful prayer warrior. She also found great joy serving others through food and staying closely connected with her family and friends.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Dorita Wheeler Deierlein (Eric) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, son, Christopher Wheeler (Paige) of Athens, GA, granddaughter Tiffany Deierlein Chamberlain (Joshua) of Turlock, CA, grandson, Eric Christian Deierlein II (Marianne) of Charleston, SC, grandchildren, Greyson, Emma, and Addison Wheeler of Athens, GA, and great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Edmund, Samuel, and Peter Chamberlain of Turlock, CA, and Eric Christian Deierlein III and Kathleen Betsy Deierlein of Charleston, SC.
