Joe Gerald Roberson

It is with deepest sorrow that I inform you that my beloved father passed away during the early morning hours of Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia. "Mr. Joe" attained the age of 94.

Mr. Joe was born in South Turkey Creek, North Carolina, on February 17, 1931 to the late Alden Lathan Roberson, Sr. and Lillie Allene Hampton Roberson.

After graduating high school in Leicester, North Carolina, Mr. Joe attended N.C. State in Raleigh, North Carolina to pursue a degree in Pre-Dairy Production. However, his studies were interrupted due to the Korean war when he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Midway aircraft carrier. Upon his honorable discharge, he became a long-haul trucker out of Dallas, Texas where he met Miss Wanda Jane Wendt, whom he would marry in McCormick, South Carolina on April 23, 1966. Mr. Joe and Wanda Jane then returned to Dallas, Texas where their only child Wanda Julaine was born November 26, 1968. Mr. Joe and his new family moved to Tryon, Oklahoma where he and Wanda Jane opened and operated a convenience store for 20 years. Mr. Joe and Wanda Jane retired in 1995 and moved to Tignall, Georgia where his mother and three of his younger brothers were living.

Their daughter Wanda Julaine, upon graduating from Oklahoma State University and completing flight attendant training for American Airlines, joined her parents in Tignall. He was predeceased by his four brothers: Larry, Alden, Gayle and Jerry.

Mr. Joe is survived by his daughter, Wanda Julaine Roberson, of Tignall, Georgia, and son-in-law Edward S. Sawchuk of Jamaica, New York.

Graveside services will be held at Pope's Chapel Cemetery, 1596 Broad Road, Tignall, Georgia on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Arthur Key will officiate the service.
