John Thomas (Jack) Armour, 90, of Rayle, entered into rest on Friday, August 2, 2024. at Piedmont Athens Hospital.
Mr. Armour was born February 15, 1934, in Wilkes County and had lived there all of his life. He was the son of the late Dave Armour and Addie Jo Gant Armour. He served in the U.S. Army in the mid 50s, and served most of that time in Japan. He was the husband of Rubye Kennedy Armour until her passing in 2020. They raised four fine sons, and were blessed with loving daughters-in-law , and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his role as a granddad, and was very good at it. Jack loved people, and possessed an engaging personality that endeared him to so many during his lifetime. He coached Little League baseball, which speaks of his love of our local youth. There are many present day “grownups” that remember him well for the positive influence that he had on their lives as a youth. Jack worked for and retired from Rayle EMC after 46 years of service. He had been a line supervisor, as well as a radio dispatcher on weekends and after hours. He had worked at the Rayle Dairy Bar for a number of years, had served on the Rayle City Council, and served as the Mayor of Rayle as well. He was also a longtime member of the Sardis Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Armour is survived by four sons, Lyn Armour (Debra), of Lexington, Barry Armour (Beth), of Lincolnton, Tracy Armour (Denise), of Rayle, and Greg Armour (Angela), also of Rayle; 14 grandchildren, John Armour, Mitch Davis, Casey Fleming, Brittany Wheatley, Bettina Armour,Dylan Armour, Walker Thornton, Colby Thornton, Justin Armour, Jackson Armour, Ethan Armour, Samantha Callaway, Cody Armour, and Hunter Armour; and a large number of great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin “Bo” Armour, of Washington, and one sister, Joan Durham (Leo), of Kennesaw. He was preceded in death by a grandson, J. B. Armour II, by a brother, Gene Armour, and by a sister, Lib A. Lunsford.
Funeral services will be 11:00A.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Newsome and Rev. Roy Cates officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 until the time of the service at Sardis Baptist Church in Rayle. Pallbearers will be grandsons, and Corrie Maxwell will serve as the Honorary Pallbearer.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Sardis Baptist Church, c/o Pam Hall, 4915 Lexington Rd., Washington, GA 30673.
