It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce Mrs. Norma B. Wallace, 103, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours Monday, December 22, 2025 at Southern Manor Senior Living in Washington, Ga.
Born Norma Alice Blackmon on October 25, 1922, she was the eldest child and only daughter of the late James H. Blackmon and Norma Alice (Martin) Blackmon.
Norma Alice took great pride in her role as big sister and was often attempting to keep her little brothers in line, something she continued to do for the rest of her life.
Growing up, Norma Alice attended Washington First United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Washington High School. She went on to attend the University of Georgia, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.
On July 4, 1944, Norma Alice married the love of her life, Robert Webster Wallace, in an intimate backyard ceremony while Robert was on leave from the Navy. They were married for 45 years.
The two had met in the fourth grade when Robert punched a schoolyard bully who had been harassing Norma Alice. From that moment on, the pair were practically inseparable.
In August of 1944, Norma Alice accepted a teaching position in Snellville, Ga. where she taught high school home economics.
After a year of teaching and a brief stint living in California, Norma Alice returned to Washington where she and Robert began building their post-war life together which included the addition of two sons: William Robert Wallace born in 1948 and Theron Asbury Wallace born in 1953. She was a devoted and loving mother.
Norma Alice worked alongside her husband at Wallace Drugs for many years, doing whatever needed to be done whether it was the bookkeeping, running the makeup counter, or making tubs of pimento cheese.
Norma Alice was a woman of deep, unshaking faith. She became a member of the First Baptist Church after her marriage. She was an active member in her Sunday School class and rarely missed a service. Even after she was no longer able to attend in person, she would listen to the weekly sermon on the radio and do her daily devotion.
She was a member of the Iris Garden Club for many years as well as a number of supper and Bridge clubs. She also ran her own craft store for a period of time.
In the latter half of her life, when most people are winding down, Norma Alice stayed busier than ever. She enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings for her family, making boiled custard, taking people to ride, traveling, watching movies, reading, baking countless tins of cheese straws and knitting.
One of her favorite pastimes was cheering on her Georgia Bulldogs. If it was a gameday Saturday, she made sure to wear her red and black. She was also a fan of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves.
Norma Alice had many hobbies and interests but the one she will be best remembered for is her knitting. The hundreds of Christmas Santa stockings she made are a part of so many families’ Christmas traditions; something she was very proud of.
In addition to her parents, Norma Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Wallace, son, William Robert “Billy” Wallace, brothers, James H. Blackmon Jr., Stephen Elisha Blackmon Sr., and Dr. Dilmas M. Blackmon, and stepmother, Agnes Harris Blackmon.
She is survived by her son, Theron Asbury Wallace (Frankie), of Conyers; daughter-in-law, Connie T. Wallace, of Washington; three granddaughters, Jamey A. Williamson, Ginny Wallace Cantrell, and Margaret Anne “Mollie” Wallace; and one great-grandchild, Dylan Wallace. She also leaves behind her brother E. Harris Blackmon (Glenda) of Washington, Ga as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Norma Alice will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Hopkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
