Robert Taylor Wheless, a devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at Pruitt Health in his hometown of Washington, Georgia. Born on December 22, 1943, Robert's lifelong connection to the outdoors was reflected not only in his personal passions but also in his distinguished career working for the Department of Natural Resources.

Known for his deep love of nature and the outdoors, Robert committed much of his life to preserving and protecting the natural heritage of Georgia. His role as a Senior Park Ranger allowed him to share his enthusiasm and expertise with countless visitors and colleagues, fostering appreciation and stewardship of the environment. His work was more than a career—it was his calling.

A faithful member of the Washington Presbyterian Church, Robert was a cornerstone of his community and a source of strength and kindness to those around him. His genuine humility and dedication will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Robert is lovingly survived by his wife, Cynthia L. Wheless, whose partnership was a constant source of love and support throughout their years together. He was a proud father to his son Haven Wheless and daughter-in-law Kim of Colbert, Georgia, as well as twin daughters Logan and Taylor Wheless, both of Washington, Georgia. He also leaves behind his sister Tessa Steed and her husband Bob of North Augusta, South Carolina, along with a cherished granddaughter, Alli Wheless, and many nieces and nephews who will continue to carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Clinton Wheless and Mary Virginia Taylor Wheless.

A graveside service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held on May 22, 2026, at 2:30 P.M. at Resthaven Cemetery in Washington, Georgia. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Robert’s life are invited to gather to honor his memory.

Robert Taylor Wheless’s life was a testament to his passion for the natural world, his unwavering devotion to his family, and his commitment to service. He will be deeply missed and forever treasured by those who had the privilege of calling him husband, father, brother, friend, and mentor.
