Virgil Cyril Wolter

Virgil Cyril Wolter, 86, of Washington, Georgia, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Virgil was born on December 19, 1939, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Paul and Kathryn Radamaker Wolter. He lived a full and interesting life marked by service, hard work, faith, family, and a wonderful sense of humor.

Virgil graduated from Colfax High School in North Dakota. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country, including time stationed in Texas. After completing his military service, Virgil began a long career as a telephone technician with Stromberg-Carlson Telephone Manufacturing Company. His work took him around the world, and he and his wife, Barbara, had the opportunity to live abroad in Europe, including Spain and London, as well as Cairo, Egypt. One of the most memorable accomplishments of his career was a six-month assignment in Cairo, where he worked on the installation of the telephone system for Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. The project was completed shortly before President Sadat’s assassination.

A man of Catholic faith, Virgil attended Bethel Church, where he enjoyed the fellowship and community of those around him.

Following retirement, Virgil enjoyed spending his time reading and working in his yard. He was well known for his sense of humor and always seemed to have a good joke ready to share. His kindness, humor, and warm personality will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Virgil is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Wolter; his stepchildren, Kim Moss and his wife, Cecilia, of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Karla Lynn Gioia of Alpharetta; and his loving daughter-in-law, Jeana Moss of Senoia, Georgia. He is also survived by his brothers, Tom Wolter and his wife, Marlene, of Larimore, North Dakota, and Gene Wolter and his wife, Marjorie, of Wadena, Minnesota; his sister, Carol McCoy and her husband, Ken, of Zebulon, North Carolina; eight step-grandchildren, Tiffany Moss Reed, Rachel Moss Alberts, Paige Moss Denard, Brandon Moss, Dylan Moss, Jordan Truitt, Jarrett Truitt, and Alexis Gioia; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; eight step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Kathryn Wolter; his brothers, Louis and Bob Wolter; and his stepson, Keith Moss.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Bethel Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Brenda Vandiver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Truitt, Jarrett Truitt, Aidan Truitt, Tracy McAvoy, Brandon Moss, and Dylan Moss.
