William Leon Aycock, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Born on August 6, 1943, in Lincolnton, Georgia, Leon was a long-time resident of Tignall, Georgia, where he left a lasting and meaningful impact on the community through both his professional career and community involvement.
Leon’s life was marked by hard work, integrity, and a deep commitment to serving others. As owner and operator of the Murray Cookie Company, he successfully expanded the business from Crawfordville to Toccoa, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the region. His professional journey also included selling life insurance with Independence Life for a few years, three years driving for Tom’s, and a business partnership with Gene Burton at the Minute Saver in Tignall, Georgia.
A proud patriot, Leon served his country in the National Guard for six years, from 1964 to 1970. His dedication to public service continued at home, where he faithfully served on the Tignall City Council for 25 years. His leadership, wisdom, and commitment to the betterment of his community were widely recognized and deeply appreciated.
In 2018, Leon was ordained as a deacon at Mallorysville Baptist Church, reflecting his strong faith and steadfast devotion to his church family. He found great joy and peace in the outdoors and especially loved spending time hunting and fishing.
Leon is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Linda S. Aycock; his loving children, Robert Jackson Aycock and his wife, Candace, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tonya Lynn Callaway and her husband, Brian, of Washington, Georgia; and his cherished grandchildren, Dillan Aycock and his wife, Elissa of Athens, Georgia, and Greg Callaway and his wife, Madeline of Washington, Georgia. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Ali Callaway, Lily Callaway, and Noah Aycock. Additional survivors include his brothers, Ronny Aycock and his wife,Mary of McCormick, South Carolina, and Danny Aycock of Lincolnton, Georgia, along with several nieces and nephews.
Leon was preceded in death by his father, William Jackson Aycock; his mother, Dolly Grace Aycock; and his brother, Douglas Burton Aycock.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Leon’s life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mallorysville Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Barry McAvoy and Reverend Phil Campbell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family extends their sincere thanks to Bristol Hospice, with special appreciation to Karla Edwards, nurse, and Veronica Chennault, nurse’s aide, for their compassionate care, kindness, and support, which brought comfort and peace during this time.
